Oh hi! It is me, Serena Louise Williams, the artist. You can call me Serena Louise, for reasons you can probably guess. I have lived in Colorado my entire life. The mountains have always beckoned to me and encouraged me to slow down and stay awhile. I received my BFA in Art Education at the University of Northern Colorado in 2011. Subsequently, I have developed as an independent artist. I produced and sold paintings and paper goods for over a decade. In the past couple years, I have switched gears and begun to create a series of originals to show in a higher art environment. I want to make elevated work that is true to me.
I am a creative through and through. If I am not painting or collaging, I am likely baking bread, playing Dungeons and Dragons or dancing. I usually work with watercolor and have become adept at cutting up my works of years past and turning them into something new. I often reflect on ideas of deconstruction, reconstruction, cycles, and seasons.
In addition to fine art. I am also an avid writer. I have been ritualistic in writing in my journal every morning. I have a credenza packed with dozens of journals. Writing has been a comfort and a tool for healing throughout my life. As I have been developing my latest series, Becoming > Being. I have been reflecting on that journey through writing. Then to add another element of art to my work, I create a playlist of songs that I attribute to the piece that is currently in production. Check out my spotify.
As an artist, I am continually seeking new modalities to deepen my creativity and skills. I am a life-long learner. To be alive in this world full of makers is an inspirational gift. I am endlessly grateful.
