The imagery for this work came to me on a summer hike to Lily Lake. I visited this lake when the Rocky Mountain Pond Lilies were in full bloom. They are bright yellow and globe shaped. In the early morning hours, the lake water was so clear and still, I could see the lily stems rooted to the ground below. They had philodendron-like leaves that laid so softly on the surface. There was a visible threshold that this beautiful plant crossed in order to get all of its needs met, sunshine and oxygen.

My title: “Resonance”
The throat chakra is our right to speak and be heard. It is the center in which we share our dreams, ideas, and our truths! It is here that what is internal vibrates into the external through our voice. The slowly rippling water level helps the viewer to see that layer of internal depths moving outward to the surface.
This piece took me six months to complete. I slowly worked through each component of the collage, starting with the pond lily. I did know that a butterfly would be the star creature. The reason being that our thyroid is shaped like a butterfly. It is said that thyroid issues are a symptom of a throat chakra blockage. It could be a repression of the voice, maybe truths that need to be released.
Once again, I am astounded by the idiosyncratic connection of the lessons of the chakras in my body of work to the body of my life. I was entering a new relationship and had vowed to my soul that I would always be honest. I was also approached separately about my past relationship and chose to share my story, in hopes of assisting someone to their own healing. In these acts of speaking my truth I crossed a creative threshold. All the while, every chakra I had worked through this past year supported me to reach this very point. I have witnessed myself face very challenging events from a grounded, fluid, discerning, and expansive place. My capacity to have a voice is strong. Therefore, I could truthfully complete this piece and be so satisfied with its outcome.
