I do not favor any chakra over another- they truly all resonate with my inner workings. Ajna is yet another energy that I heavily rely on, but will at times be at odds with what is my highest wisdom? And what is a small insecure voice inside me? For months now, I have been wearing the two petal lotus around my neck. The thin gold pendant above my heart, a constant reminder to trust my gut. It is my ongoing mantra to “Trust myself.”
Element: Light
Color: Purple
My title: “Intuition”
The Ajna chakra is also known as the “third eye”. The third eye rests in the center of the brow bone. It is our inner wisdom and knowing. This energy center begins to connect us to higher powers beyond our physical world. Its power extends beyond our earthly plane of understanding and connects to a higher purpose. We use Ajna to command our realities by shaping the images we see.
A song by Moby, “This Wild Darkness”, played the day I began color mixing the black irises. It is a poetic and sad piece of music. As I put the brush and pigment to the paper I was touched by the prayer of the song. “Ooo in this darkness, please light my way.” I found that praying or asking the Spirit for guidance is also an act of looking inward for the light that has always existed in me. Elizabeth Gilbert said it best when she wrote “God dwells within me, as me.”
Undoubtedly, creating Ajna has been the most challenging of the series so far. I think it took me about six months to complete. The composition alone was a feat in itself. I did know I wanted a flying animal to embody the idea of wisdom. I remember when I was in Florida, during the winter of 2022/2023, I noticed a red tail hawk sitting on the fence just outside my bedroom window. He sat there staring at me, unmoving, and with his right taloned foot tucked into his torso. I found myself being called to meditate in my corner as he sat out there. I remember a feeling of generosity and feeling honored to be in the presence of such a cunning and calm creature. He may have been a spirit sent to show me something, I cannot know for sure. Regardless, it was a meaningful event in my life.
The irises represent a message of wisdom, insight, and truth. I also chose the black variant of that flower to contrast the presence of light. The light emanating from the eye of the hawk, and the eye of the sun. The sun is the celestial body of Ajna. The eye of the sun is represented in a way that casts clarifying rays outside and from within itself.
